Metabolite
A compound produced by the body's metabolism of a drug; often what drug tests actually detect.
Last updated:Many drug tests target metabolites rather than the parent drug. For example, urine cannabis testing targets THC-COOH (an inactive metabolite), and cocaine testing targets benzoylecgonine. Metabolite detection generally has a longer window than parent-drug detection but does not indicate impairment.
