Adulterated specimen

A specimen that contains a substance that is not normally present, or shows abnormal physical properties.

Last updated:

A specimen is reported as adulterated if it contains an added substance (e.g., bleach, nitrites) or has abnormal pH/creatinine/specific gravity. Adulteration is treated as a refusal to test under DOT-regulated programs and triggers the consequences of a positive result.
